Some African inspiration…
I must admit that I have never been ‘fan’ of African decor, maybe with the exception of being at a game lodge. That seems to have changed a bit, firstly I’m going through a complete obsession with natural materials in the home and, strangely enough, sisal mats. Of course I’m still a student, don’t own my own house and hardly have money to spend on decor but I still love it and I can blog about it! Ha! I also was browsing in Simon’s Town and came across this book (Hot Afro) which only strengthened my already growing love of really simple, chic, and elegant African decor. I love the whole African theme for a home, in small amounts though and with one rule – NO orange, that colour in large amounts makes me nauseous.
Moving on though! I started a new painting of an Nguni cow just to suffice this growing love! I think this sudden obsession became after my luxury safari with the boyfriend earlier this holiday. I must say, that my first experience of a 5-star game lodge exceeded all my expectations. We stayed at Tau Game Reserve in Madikwe and it was beautiful – it’s also nice having your bed made for you twice a day. There were always buffet’s for meals, and the whole small lodge dined together and that was when we noticed that Stu and I were just about the only South Africans there. I had an outdoor shower that was a few metres from the watering hole (mind you, there was an electric fence separating me from the wild animals). We saw a huge amount of game and my favourites were the one month old elephant calf and the tiny lion cubs we saw.
Here some pics of everything…

Painting by Terry Angelos
I’ve started working on my own painting – see the first few stages of my nguni cow painting below. I’m also busy on my lounge at the moment and I want to bring in my own touch of Africa.
